Project diagrams
From bat feeding grounds to decisions on how to count bedrooms, Nightsniffing deals with a complex array of related phenomena that can be difficult to trace and track. For the project, I developed a diagramming method, inspired principally by Karen Barad’s philosophy of agential realism. These “onto-epistemograms” detail processes of creating and investigating, as well as mapping different affective logics and dynamics in the project. The rules and further examples of this diagramming language are detailed in the Diagramming Relations section, and is discussed in Chapter 3 of the thesis commentary.
A selection of these diagrams were shared as part of the University of Sussex online Media, Film and Music Doctoral Day in 2021, using a custom made gather.town environment. In this environment, the Nightsniffing Research Process diagram served as a set of gateways into other diagrams, with media from the project embedded within throughout. Versions of these diagrams are used within the thesis commentary and in different sections of this documentation website, but are gathered here together so their efficacy can be assessed.
